The Surf City Kiwanis Club of Santa Cruz is pleased to announce the availability of four first-year college scholarships each in the amount of $1,000. All will be awarded in May 2017. Applications are being accepted from seniors graduating this spring from four area high schools: Harbor, Santa Cruz, Soquel, & Pacific Collegiate. Each scholarship is targeted for a student planning to study a specific major, as follows:

The Melissa Smith Memorial Scholarship: to provide assistance for a student who desires to follow the field of DANCE, DRAMA or the ARTS.
The Herb Reid Memorial Scholarship: to provide assistance for a student who will pursue a career in MEDIA/COMMUNICATION.
The Mas Sugimoto Memorial Scholarship: to provide assistance to a student who will pursue a career in ENGINEERING.
The Ken and Ruby Marion Memorial Scholarship: to provide assistance for a student who will pursue a career in BUSINESS.

All scholarship applications must be submitted through the high school counselor’s office. Selection will then be made by the Scholarship Committee of the Surf City Kiwanis Club of Santa Cruz.

Criteria for selection will be:

Academic achievement
Community involvement
Demonstrated leadership

We will accept candidate applications until Friday, April 14, 2017. Please let me know if you will need additional time for your final review beyond that date. Scholarships will be awarded in early May so presentations may be made at your annual scholastic achievement/Senior Grad night event. Please provide us with the date, time & location of your school’s awards/grad night ceremony so that we can arrange to have a member of our Scholarship committee attend the ceremony.
